Philips Xenium X312 Appears, Boasts A Full Month Of Standby

Philips' Xenium line has always had one very simple selling point: they offered especially long battery life. The latest of the line, the Philips Xenum X312, doesn't strive to be any different, boasting a claimed standby time lasting a full one month.

Clad in an attractive-looking metallic design, the candybar handset brings elegant styling that's a bit on the industrial side. While it showed up on Philips' Russian website, there were no specs listed, although pundits are guessing it will come with the same basic features as found on similar "long-lasting" phones from the company: namely, a QVGA display, stereo Bluetooth, an onboard music player, FM radio, a 3.2 megapixel camera (or less), microSD card support and GSM/EDGE.

Since we haven't seen the Xenium line extend to any markets beyond Russia and Asia, it's fair to expect the Philips Xenium X312 will stay within those two areas too. Sounds like a great phone for those extended weekends out enjoying nature.

New Low-End Android Phone Philips V808 Announced, Slated For Chinese Market

philipsv808a

Philips just announced a new Android phone, their second for the year.  Called the Philips V808, it's headed right to the Chinese market, most likely to the country's largest mobile carrier (China Mobile).

The phone has appeared unofficially several times before, mistaken as running a whole different OS.  Well, it's now official.  The V808 will be rocking Android 1.6 Donut, with a decent hardware set that's a bit on the low end for modern smartphones.

Destined for the Chinese audience, the device only supports GSM 900/1800 MHz, along with GPRS and EDGE.  Yep, no 3G.  It features a 3.2-inch TFT  touchscreen (with 480 x 320 resolution), a 3.2 megapixel camera module, 30 MB internal storage (with microSD support up to 8GB), a USB port, onboard GPS and Bluetooth.

Like most Android phones, it will come with a variety of apps, including a document viewer and a media player.  It supports a decent range of formats, for both audio (AMR, Midi, MP3, SP-Midi, WAV, WMA) and video (MPEG4, 3GP, H.263).  Given the specs, this phone will likely compete at the bottom range of entry-level Android smartphones.

No price or release date have been given, nor word of any plans to bring the Philips V808 outside of China.

New Philips Xenium X630 Gets 12 Hours Talk Time And 50 Days Standby

philipsx630a

Philips just announced a new handset from its Xenium line. Called the X630, it boasts the same long battery life as other previous releases in the series, offering up to 12 hours of talk time and a ridiculous 50 days in standby mode.

Naturally, the phone veers away from a souped-up feature set to manage the excessively capable battery life, sporting primarily low- to mid-end talents. It makes do with no 3G radio and no GPS tuner, but offers just enough to make it worth the while for the average phone user.

Specs include a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD (262,000 colors), 3.2 megapixel optics, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, music player capabilities and microSDHC expansion (up to 8GB). It sports 111.8 x 48.9 x 15.1 mm dimensions and weighs 118 grams, all while packing a 1530 mAh battery unit to facilitate the extreme longevity.

No announcement of pricing or release date has been given for the Philips Xenium X630. Based on the product photo's Chinese text, though, this is likely intended for a China release first, with other parts of Asia following suit. There's no indication that the phone will ever reach US shores, but wouldn't it be awesome to have the choice of a handset with an insane 12-hour talk time?  This thing might only need charging every four or five days for the casual user.
