Samsung Champ C3300K Announced, Packs 2.4-Inch Touchscreen

Samsung just announced a new affordable touchscreen phone aimed at emerging markets.  Billed as the Samsung Champ, the new entry-level handset will have the smallest touchscreen in the company's roster.

How small? At 2.4 inches (with a reasonable 320 x 240 resolution), the resistive panel makes the Samsung Corby's 2.8-inch display look huge in comparison. Seriously, it looks like a small MP3 player, more than a phone. It will come with Samsung's TouchWiz Lite UI, likely unmodified, since the handset can manage the full resolution. Users should enjoy the same multiple homescreen pages, but expect to deal with considerably smaller icons and text.

The Champ C3300K is strictly quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, with no 3G or WiFi connectivity. Details include a 1.3 megapixel camera module, FM radio, an onboard music/video player, stereo Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headset jack, 30MB of onboard storage, microSD card expansion (up to 8GB) and a 1,000 mAh battery. It measures 3.79 x 2.12 x 0.51 inches, weighs a light 2.82 oz and comes in four colors (black, white, brown and pink).

No pricing for the Samsung Champ C3300K has been announced, but it is slated for availability beginning in June. Released will be limited to select markets in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
