Nokia quietly announced a new handset for the German market yesterday. Called the Nokia 5228, the device is an entry-level touchscreen phone running Symbian S60 at the helm.
Physically, it's an absolute dead-ringer for one of the Finnish company's previous releases, the Nokia 5230. In fact, it's exactly the same thing, with the 3G chip and the GPS module scooped out, leaving the new release with just a little less features.
Details of the Nokia 5228 include a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen (with 360 x 640 resolution), a 2.0 megapixel camera module (with VGA video at 30 fps), Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.5 mm jack, 70MB internal storage and microSD card expansion (up to 16GB). It packs a 1,320 mAh battery, rated at 7 hours of talk time and up to 18 days in standby mode. Connectivity will be strictly GSM/EDGE.
Like we said, Germany gets first dibs on the handsets, where it can be bought in either white or black front panels, with the back in either red, pink, blue, yellow silver or dark silver. Yep, plenty of color choices there, similar to the lower-end touchscreens it's going up against in the market, like Samsung's Corby and LG's Cookie series.
The Nokia 5228 is expected to hit stores sometime in July for a very affordable 139 Euros.
