Samsung Announces Galaxy Ace Plus

Samsung has announced a new low-end phone aimed at non-North American markets. Called the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, the handset brings Android in a compact and affordable package.

By the way, we use the word "compact" subjectively here.  Just a couple years ago, this is how big all smartphones were -- just enough to fill your pocket comfortably.  Heck, the design, shape and general dimensions of this handset are eerily similar to the iPhone 3G.  Yep, we guess Apple's multiple lawsuits aren't quite getting their message across.

Details of the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus include a 3.65-inch capacitive touchscreen (320 x 480 resolution), a 5.0 megapixel camera module, aGPS, 3G with HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2GB of storage and microSD card expansion.   Muscle is provided by a modest 1Ghz processor.

It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the familiar TouchWiz on top.  As with other Android phones, it comes with Google's Mobile Services, along with a number of preloaded apps, including ThinkFree Office, Samsung Social Hub, Samsung Music Hub and ChatON.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus will initially be launched in Russia, with markets in China, Africa, the Middle East, Southwest Asia, Latin America, CIS and Europe to follow.   No pricing or exact release dates yet.

In fact, Acer's stated aim for the beTouch E400 is to 'open our users' world to the endless possibilities of real mobile Internet', and the device aims to please as it packs both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity allowing for rapid wireless online access and web browsing for fast and easy updating of information and user status on a range of social networking sites.

The image conscious individual should be more than satisfied with the dimensions of the E400 as well with its slender girth of just 12 millimeters. There is also a full-size 3.2 inch HD HGVA resistive touch screen, displaying color brightly and vividly.

The integral camera isn't of the highest specs at 3.2 megapixels, but it is decent enough and does pack some useful additional features such as integral flash, a digital zoom, white balance and geotagging. This gives you the option of immediately tagging your images with information such as the exact location of where they were snapped, which is great when you link to your social sites and post your pics to keep your friends and family updated. The camera will also record video and you have the ability to instantly post your recordings onto YouTube thanks to the E400's pre-installed YouTube app by touching its icon.

The E400 is also well suited to the business user, coming pre-installed with Native Microsoft Exchange Server Support giving the user immediate navigation to work and business e-mails from any location. LG officially announces the Arena KM900

LG Arena KM900

LG has now published  an official picture of the new LG Arena KM900 on their official UK blog. The company has said that the device will officially be revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on February 16th and will be released through T-Mobile Germany.

The phone will be a full touch screen handset display (3” 800 x 480 WVGA) and will feature metallic casing that will make the device no thicker then 11.95mm. The device will also feature a five mega pixel camera (DVD quality video recording) and Divx playback. It will have Wi-Fi functionality, mobile TV functionality, built in turn-by-turn GPS, FM Radio and the device will be the first to feature LG’s new S-Class 3D interface, which closely resembles the interface of the Apple iPhone. The device will also have a 1000 mAh battery that boasts 300hrs of stand-by time and 230 min of talk-time although both numbers will fluctuate depending on how the user uses the device and what programs the user chooses to operate.

Even though the handset seems to be in production, problems and set backs do occur and the device’s features could be changed, by either T-Mobile or LG, which also could delay the production. If everything checks out and nothing significant is changed, the LG Arena KM900 should be available to consumers in Europe sometime in March of this year.

Unfortunately though a full-panel touch screens tends to attract fingerprints and scratches. But thats a common issue with all the touchscreen phones and nothing a scratch proof film won't fix.

This is not only good for conserving power but also helps extend the screen life. Your Proximity Sensor at the top left corner, your LCD will turn off, allowing the user only to end calls or adjust volume, sensor not active when Bluetooth or speaker is on. You Dare is transformed to a camera when you rotate it 90 degrees. The back is solid black except the camera lens and flash at the upper corner, a camera shutter key at the edge on your phone completes the transformation. The All New Palm Pre Review – Pretty Cool

palm_pre

Palm Pre is a smooth and beautiful device with a tweaked OS its exciting new user interface. It now comes with a variety of swiping gestures with great animated motions. This phone has a very modern and fresh look to it giving the user the best experience and a very useful tool for everyday life.

DESIGN: Palm Pre comes packed with an extremely sharp and brilliant color, half-VGA (320x480) resolution multi touch screen. Besides using the screen for navigation, you have a gesture section on the right just below the display, here you able to use the finger swipes or touches to activate toolbars, application, menus, advance or go back. Its also has a slide-out complete QWERTY keyboard, the buttons are a bit on a smaller side, however it has a reasonable amount space in-between them, the hardware of this device feels solid, after you slide it open you will find its slightly curved shape that makes it very comfortable to type or talk on. The touch screen is responsive and like the iPhone you can pinch the screen to zoom pages out and in easily.

SYNERGY ON THE PALM PRE: Multitasking is very easy on the smart-phone with its Deck of Cards feature this allows you to scroll through different applications also lets you toggle in-between without closing or opening windows. Synergy brings calendar information, your e-mail accounts, and contacts from different sources to one place.

WEB BROWSER: THE Pre has a very outstanding browser; it renders all sites onscreen same as on the desktop, with speed. Palm offers CSS, HTML and JavaScript.

MULTIMEDIA: The Palm Pre come set with 3-megapixel camera, the photo quality is pretty decent, but disappointingly there are no video recording capabilities. When it comes to music Palm is partnered with Amazon Music Store, making it possible to purchase songs.

WHAT ELSE YOU GET: The Palm offers integrated Bluetooth 2.1 (also supports you stereo Bluetooth), Wi-Fi, GPS, and EV-DO Rev A. it boasts a 8GB storage, also high-speed USB 2.0 and 3.5mm headphone jack.

THE OUTLOOK: Palm Web OS and The Palm Pre is not really made to revolutionize this smart-phone market, since it does not offer new crazy features, yet it gives a fresh look how you interact with the device the way it organizes its information. The Pre is a good come back for Sprint putting it in competition with other phones like the iPhone, AT&T, the Blackberry from storm and Verizon Wireless. The Pre is expected to be released in the first part of 2009,

CONCLUSION: The Palm Pre is a sleek and sexy modern smart-phone with loads of new features; it comes with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard every texters dream. It also has large storage space of 8GB, It takes great photos but on the downside it lacks a video camera. The price is not available as yet but it will most probably compete with Storm and iPhone. Palm has evidently put a lot of work and time into the Pre to give the user a great experience when using this smart-phone.

Watch American Idol From Your Cell Phone (if you must)

Most of us know that you can download a You Tube video on your cell phone and catch highlights if you happen to miss your favorite television show, however did you know that you can now catch actual live broadcasts from your phone? Here’s the catch though … it is only for available for Verizon and AT&T customers. FloTV has produced this technology where mobile devices can now catch broadcasting signals resulting in you literally being able to watch television from your cell phone. That is absolutely amazing. These aren’t streaming videos or anything where you have to wait for a download. This is just turning your phone on and watching the game on ESPN, or catching your favorite sitcom. This same technology is going to result on people’s DVD screens that they have installed in their cars to be able to broadcast television as well. In addition, television will also be able to broadcast on GPS screens in cars (as long as the car is in park, I mean, come on, we have to still be safe!).

Just imagine what the next American Idol is going to be like? Definitely more people are going to be able to call in, because people will be able to watch the show live on their cell phone, and then call in right after the show on the same device! I love technology!
