We previously reviewed the RunKeeper for the iPhone, arguably one of the best fitness apps currently available on the platform. There's no version of that particular software for the Android, but the CardioTrainer, a popular app from the Android Market, looks to do everything that the RunKeeper offers, along with some unique features.
At first launch, CardioTrainer will prompt you to enter your body weight, so it can report on estimated calories that you're able to burn during each workout. That, as it turns out, is all the setup needed. You can freely use the app immediately after that.
Like RunKeeper, it uses your phone's GPS to track your location, mapping your travel route from start to finish. It calculates most of the statistics (calories burned and such) based on this information. Alternatively, you can choose to employ an integrated pedometer to do the calculations, which is particularly useful when no GPS signal is available.
Once a workout is completed, the app automatically uploads the data to its servers, where you can access it using an automatically-generated code. A Facebook plugin is also offered, in case you want to share your workout results with your social network.
A number of cool features actually make CardioTrainer a much more complete app than most any other fitness software on the Android Market. Instead of just tracking your runs, for instance, it can also be used to effectively monitor other cardio-based activities, such as biking, skiing and rollerblading, with corresponding computations adjusted based on the particular exercise you are doing.
Other nifty features include a built-in music player (so you don't have to leave the interface in order to run through your playlists) and a Race Against Yourself add-on, which functions like a time trial, of sorts. CardioTrainer is probably the best fitness app I've seen on any mobile platform and is a must-have for anyone looking to bring their Android phones along during their aerobic workouts.
It's available for free, with the Race Against Yourself add-on costing $2.99.

CardioTrainer really looks like the best fitness app. It has tons of features. I really like the Race against yourself feature, that really is the best part about it.
So finally GPS has more advantages than one thought of. First iphone and now Android. Nice application and something for Android users to rejoice about.
Yeah a lot of great apps are coming out for the Android.
This is a pretty good one and I really like the race feature too.
hello, so I just love this app my only question is my mother and sister,(whom I try to workout with constantly) have diffrent phone, a blackberry, and a iphone. I think the move yout bot feature is excelent but how, and can I play this with them through another app that is compatable for there phone?? Or is there a way for them to use the cardiotrainer app on there phone or computer or something??? We were so excited about all it can do but realised that I might be the only one able to use it.
