Alive 4 Ever: Best Zombie Shooter On The iPhone

Mowing down zombies is always a bundle of fun.  Alive 4 Ever, recently released for the iPhone, joins the countless number of titles that see you fighting the undead.  More than another run-of-the-mill Left 4 Dead knockoff, though, it does the deed with better execution, excellent gameplay and more gore than usual.

The storyline is as simple as it gets - a zombie epidemic breaks out and you play one of four individuals who are currently unaffected.  Each character comes with their own set of weapons and abilities, with much of the differences evening out as you gain more experience points.

Gameplay is a typical top-down shooter that you manage with two virtual sticks - one for movement and another for firing.  There are a few other standard controls, like a weapon changer and a reload button.  New buttons appear regularly for special actions, like picking up objects.

The levels offer enough variety to keep things interesting.  While you spend most of your time battling hordes of the undead, your goals for each mission change.  Some levels require you to kill a specified number of zombies; others require you to stay alive for a certain time period; and a few involve rescue or salvage missions.  Additionally, you get various boss levels that pit you against special opponents and a Bluetooth-based cooperative multiplayer mode to help mix things up.

With excellent graphics, catchy audio and fun gameplay, Alive 4 Ever is easily one of the best zombie shooters I've seen on a mobile platform.  It's a complete, well-thought-out game that fosters no lack in any department.  At a special launch price of 99 cents, this is as good a deal as you can get on an iPhone game.
